I wonder if the 2023 iPhone release may even be around June instead of September, because ARM unconventionally missed its tick-tock cycle with 3 iterations of 5nm chips. The first 3nm chips for iPhone, based on ARMv9, may be ready to release earlier than normal.
Update - November 1st, 2022
While this idea was always unlikely since it hadn't happened previously, it may be even less likely due to a report about Apple possibly basing their next A-series chip off of the 2nd generation of ARM's 3nm design. This would allow Apple to stick to their fall schedule but potentially gain an even better performance improvement for the 2023 iPhone. However, I'm unsure if Apple has ever made an iPhone with a 2nd generation design before making one with the 1st generation design. So it will be interesting to see when the next iPhone comes out, and if the A-Series chip is based off of the 1st or 2nd generation of ARM's 3nm chip designs.
